What is Latitude Update
It's an Blackberry Playbook application helping you to keep your Google Latitude location updated all the time, letting you chose the update frequency.

How to use it?
NOTE 1: Requires authorization each time the app starts. As long as the app runs on foreground or background NO re-authorization is needed. The app can run forever but Playbook OS sometimes kills background processes if it's running low on memory - in this case you will need to restart the app and re-authorize. The workaround for this issue - always make sure you have enough memory to run your apps. If phone is restarted, the app requires re-authorization. We are aware of the inconvenience of this and working with Google to resolve it, note that it's Google's website that is caching the secured token, not the app.
NOTE 2: For MetroPCS users, it seems that this provider also blocks the Google Latitude login service - but apparently you can still authorize while on WIFI. So here is what you can do - start the app and click authorize, ener username/password etc (see below), aftre that click "back", and click "start updating" - it will probably work fine even when you leave the WIFI area. We are trying to figure out the issue with the provider.
First thing you need to do, once you clicked on the Latitude Updae icon and the application is loaded as shown above, is to authorize. This means logging in to Google and entering your Google account username/password and granting permissions. You do this by clicking on "authorize" button above.
Clicking on "authorize" button will lead you through some screens where you need to confim you want to allow Latitude Update to update Google Latitude. Click "grant access" when requested:
Now you should see the following screen - note that you may get this screen before the previous if you already entered your username/password a short while ago. Also note that the permission request will mention www.maildover.com - that's the developer that created Latitude Update application. Please click "grant access":
Click "grant permission" again:
Once permission is granted, you should see the following screen - click "back" button when you see it. Note, some service providers such as AT&T are blocking access from time to time, so at this point you may see HTTP error page - you may need to try it later:
Note that you might be getting the following error page in stread, it usually means that Google Latitude login service did complete successfuly, just click "back" and continue:
On the other hand, if you get the following, it means that Google Latitude login service is blocked by your service provider. You can still use Latitude Update when you are connected through WIFI, but not on the provider data network. The only provider we have found to do this so far are AT&T:
You will see the screen that shows up on top of this page. To start updating, simply click "start updating" button, and you are done! Click on this button again anytime, to stop updating:
Note that the update will occur every minute now, as this is the default setting. So even if the GPS provider will update your device less frequently than 1 minute, e.g. every half hour, Latitude Update will update the location for half hour with exactly same location - the latest one received from the GPS provider. Also, note that Latitude Update overlays the native Google Latitude updates - in other words, if Goolge Latitude application is running on your Playbook at the same time as Latitude Update, both Google Latitude and Latitude Update will update the location history concurrently.
You can set Latitude Update to update location every 1 minute to 10 minutes, by clicking at the "Update every 1 min" button. Note again, that Latitude Update will take the latest location as provided by the GPS provider, so for example if the GPS provider is updating every 10 seconds, and you select to update Latitude Update every 5 minutes, Latitude Update will update using the 30'th GPS location update (GPS provider updates 6 times a minute X 5 min = 30):
You can also change the location update provider, from GPS provider to CELL/WIFI provider. So for example, if your device does not have GPS, or the WIFI location you are connected to provides more accurate location then your GPS, you can chose this option:
Note that if you started to update already, you will need to stop and start updating for location provider change to take effect.
Viewing your location and location history
You can also view your location on your desktop web browser using iGoogle, the default iGoogle view will show Latitude on the top left side.
To view and manage your location history (last few locations as recorded by Google Latitude), you’ll need to login to your Google account in www.google.com, then go to https://www.google.com/latitude/apps/history/dashboard. Note that Google Latitude will convert the timestamp for each location to the local time zone on each location. Also, note that Google Latitude will assign a location name to each location, if it can find appropriate location name to the coordinates provided – the location name is not provided by the Playbook device.
